Be Modern XX Century Design Collection Be Modern is a curated selection of original mid-century design pieces, with a focus on Scandinavian and Brazilian furniture.

Each item in our collection is an original piece, part of the 20th century history of design and lifestyle.

Along with the collection, Be Modern also provides comprehensive consultancy in art direction, interior architecture, and decoration.

We also promote dedicated activities to preserve 20th-century design heritage through exhibitions, presentations, media engagement, and research.

Be Modern is a project curated by Monika Unger, an architect, and a passionate and knowledgeable collector of mid-Century Design.

We offer our clients not only high-quality timeless design pieces but also full consultancy in art direction, interior architecture, and decoration.

All items in our collection are original, unique pieces.

Be Modern is strongly committed to preserve and promote 20th Century design heritage through initiatives that include exhibitions, presentations, and research, encouraging collaborations with museums, art galleries and other dealers.

Monika Unger

An international background. A multicultural vision.

Brought up in a challenging cultural and political environment in Warsaw, Monika moves to Brussels where she graduates in architecture at “La Cambre”, the post Bauhaus school founded by Henry Van De Velde.

A master in Environmental design from MIT (Cambridge, Massachusetts) and an extended professional experience contribute to a passionate approach and interest for architecture, art and communication.

She moves to Italy where, after an architecture stage with Giancarlo De Carlo, she joins the Corporate Image department of Olivetti in Milan.

In 1994 she founds Creative Communications.

A passion for modernist furniture, she collects XX Century Design pieces from Scandinavia and Brazil.

She pursues her career as an architect and art director for private and commercial projects.

In 2010, she founds Be Modern, a XX Century Design Gallery.

Monika curates several design exhibitions such as “Brazilian Modern” and “Young Creative Poland” during the Milan Design week.

She lives is Milan but when possible she spends time at her Ligurian country retreat.
