After studying philosophy at Copenhagen University and training as a cabinetmaker in the early 1940s, Jalk studied furniture design at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, and Industrial Design and the Royal Danish Academy of Arts. Best known for her furniture design, including laminated plywood furniture for manufacturer Poul Jeppesen, and tubular steel furniture for manufacturer Fritz Hensen, such as the easy chair of 1964. She also worked in other design media, including textiles, metalware, and wallpaper.
